“I definitely identify with people’s sense of spirituality, and that feeling which people really get from music when they hear it, and see it presented in a way that feels… grand. And big – that intangible thing of this is something that moves me in a way I can’t quite describe. That’s what people seem to be getting from it.”

Synth ‘N’ B

Kwabs, full name Kwabena Adjepong has been making big waves this year. With his deep emotionally heavy baritone voice married to the icy-cool washes of electro-soul, Kwabs is a star on the rise. Born in Ghana, but raised and based in Camberwell, London, Kwabs` sound mixes blues, gospel, R`n`B, and the rhythms of African music with synth-heavy ambience to produce a glorious instantly accessible sound.

Wrong or Right felt like a purer R&B moment. Pray for Love drew on my love of tribal rhythms. “Walk” takes more from hip-hop.

Kwabs : Billboard interview, August 29th, 2014.

The Wrong or Right EP featured production duties from SOHN to excellent effect on Last Stand, a slow moving, late night electro-soul number lifted higher by beautiful vocal work by Adejepong. The Pray for Love EP`s standout number is Into You, driven by a treated timpani, Kwab`s vocal performance and the emotional truth that resonates throughout the melody. Most recent release, Walk, is far more upbeat and bombastic and has garnered over 1 million listens on his Soundcloud account.
