Obey City – Music Review

“I try to throw a lot of curve balls and things you don’t hear in the typical electronic producer’s mix.” – Obey City

American producer, Sam Obey (pronounced “Oh-Bee”) is another Brooklyn reAsident. His EDM comes over like a chilled UNKLE with cleaner, jazz-tinged sounds. It is also a throwback to 90`s sounds a la Orbital and FSOL.

Obey has managed to bottle something of the street like Goldie’s Inner City Life and that feeds into his music.

Check out: Quantum Phase

Captures all the above about Obey City in one song. The chilled vibe, the jazzy, UNKLE sound and the street element. Also when the bass kicks in around 1:30 it could be a lost Prince song.
